The House of Representatives has approved amendments to the Road Traffic (Penalties) Law, reducing fines for certain traffic violations. The changes were proposed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works following a public consultation process.

Under the new law, the following fines have been reduced:

  • Speeding: From €30 to €20
  • Running a red light: From €150 to €100
  • Driving without a valid license: From €200 to €150
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol: From €300 to €250

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, welcomed the House’s approval of the amendments. He said that the reduction in fines will help ease the financial burden on motorists and encourage them to comply with traffic regulations.

The new law will come into effect on 1 July 2023.
